Plakat, designed by David F. Nalle, is a free retro slab serif display font with the blunt impact of hand-cut poster lettering. Its broad strokes and chunky bracketed serifs look slightly uneven at the edges. The shapes feel sturdy and informal.

Posters are its strongest setting, especially for theater, fairs, or music events that benefit from an old printed-bill character. The same rough-hewn weight suits food packaging and merchandise with a deliberately homespun or vintage theme. In a sign or illustrated badge, the lettering can become part of the graphic itself, resembling type stamped from worn wooden blocks.
